Did you ice skate, play hockey or attend a concert here in the winter?

Do You Remember?

In the winter, the Anchorage Fire Department went around to Anchorage schools and created ice skating rinks on the playground.

Then at recess, you could take your skates outside and spend recess skating. What fun.

Mary of Anchorage Memories remembers skating in the Sports Arena and the Park Strip ice skating rink. And as a four-year-old, using her green double-bladed skates, to go around her family’s backyard rink.

Anchorage Fun Rendezvous Memories

What are your favorite memories of the Fur Rondy?

The dog sled races, blanket toss, carnival rides or?

The Fur Rendezvous began from February 15 -17, 1936 as a sports tournament. It is now the world’s biggest winter carnival.
